The Centralia Coal Mine, in Lewis County, was once Washington's largest coal mine. Production came from five coal beds within the Skookumchuck Formation. It closed down production in 2006. The John Henry Mine, located in the Black Diamond Coal Field, produced about 250,000 tons per year during the mid1990s and closed in 1997.

Many breakers and washeries efficiently handle the coarser sizes, but waste the coal fines. This problem is assuming major importance due to the increase in the amount of coal fines being produced by the mechanization of coal mining. Flotation offers a very satisfactory lowcost method for recovering a fine, low ash, clean coal product at a profit.
Coal mining and logistics covers coal extraction from mines, coal preparation and transportation to the final users such as power plants or industrial plants. Coal Mining There are two mining methods for coal extraction depending on the geology and economics of the deposit: underground mining (60% of world coal production) and surface mining ...
Surface mining techniques are categorized as either strip, open pit, or mountaintop removal. Strip mining is a method used on flat terrain and involves removing soil or rock above a layer of coal, exposing the coal seam for mining. One type of strip mining is contour mining, where .
